Celebrate Student Creativity and Fine Arts April 11-20 with Arts Week 2022 – News

The College of Arts and Sciences will organize a series of performances, exhibitions and student events for the new celebration of Arts Week in April.

The spotlight will be on student creativity and the fine arts at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with concerts, exhibits, musical theater and more from April 11-20.

Presented by UAB’s College of Arts and Sciences, Arts Week 2022 will feature students from the departments of Music, Drama, English, and Art and Art History – and the extraordinary talent of all fine arts academic units of the college.

Featured events will include the annual BFA Expo, a landmark concert with the Department of Music and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, a new open mic night featuring creative writing students, the UAB Theater production of “The SpongeBob Musical”, and more. Events will take place at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts at UAB, the Alys Stephens Center for the Performing Arts and the Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall at the Hulsey Center for the Arts.

Spring is often touted as a time of new beginnings, says College of Arts and Sciences Dean Kecia M. Thomas, Ph.D.; but it is also when the work done underground or behind the scenes pays off, when plants emerge from the ground and new flowers appear on shrubs and trees.

“The same goes for artists, they work together for long hours out of the public eye and eventually emerge giving us breathtaking beauty, sound and feeling,” Thomas said. “I hope you will join me in witnessing the new work emerging from our fine arts programs as we celebrate our student artists.”

With this curated list of performances, the college invites students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to attend and engage with the arts at UAB. See more College of Arts and Sciences arts events in April on the UAB campus calendar.
