Adding to the excitement of book lovers, the organizing body of the upcoming Jaipur Literature Festival has released the second list of speakers. The hybrid field version of the 15th edition of this glorious celebration of literature, speech and camaraderie is scheduled for January 28 – February 1, 2022. The stellar lineup includes a roster of twenty-five poets, writers and intellectuals from India and abroad.

While the first list of speakers featuring 15 notable names was released on November 15, the second list featuring 25 notable names was released yesterday. Speaking on the same, writer, editor and co-director of Jaipur Literature Festival – Namita Gokhale, said: “Our second list of speakers unfolds to give further insight into the rich diversity of voices that will be featured at Jaipur Literature. Festival 2022.. We are proud to feature writers and thinkers, dreamers and actors from all languages, cultures and continents. “

The list includes Akhil Katyal, an Indian poet, LGBTQ rights activist and author; Andrew Lownie, British biographer, literary agent and author; Anindita Ghose, writer and journalist based in Mumbai; David Wengrow, British archaeologist and author; Elif Shafak, award-winning Anglo-Turkish novelist; Jairam Ramesh, MP for Rajya Sabha and author; K. Satchidanandan, poet, writer, critic, playwright and publisher; Jamaican poet, writer and essayist Kei Miller

The stellar line-up also includes renowned Bangladeshi journalist Mahfuz Anam; critically acclaimed historian and writer Manu S. Pillai; American scholar and author Maya Jasanoff; British writer Monica Ali; actor, child rights activist and writer Nandana Dev Sen; Co-chair of Forbes Marshall, engineer, businessman and author Naushad D. Forbes; feminist, publisher and writer Robert Macfarlane.

Plus, to add diversity, Hollywood actor, director and screenwriter Rupert Everett; award-winning British poet Ruth Padel; Indian novelist, critic and scholar Saikat Majumdar; Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka; award-winning Indian film actress, television personality and author Sonali Bendre; Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, author of recipient Tanuj Solanki; the author and winner of the Padma Bhushan Vidya Dehejia Prize; Senior Indian journalist and filmmaker Vinod Kapri is also on the list of speakers this year.

JLF returns in a hybrid avatar

William Dalrymple, writer, historian and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, said: “We come back with a truly spectacular roster of literary superstars from around the world. In fiction we have this year’s Booker winner, the great Damon Galgut, his predecessors Monica Ali and DBC Pierre, Pulitzer winner Jonathan Franzen, and Turkish superstar Elif Shafak. We have Rob Macfarlane on Nature Writing, Rupert Everett on Hollywood, Vidya Dehejia on Chola Bronzes. We also focus on archeology and ancient history: Cat Jarman on Vikings, David Wengrove on Dawn of Everything and many more. “

Since its creation in 2007, this festival has welcomed around 5,000 speakers and performers and has welcomed millions of book lovers from all over the world. After a successful virtual edition last year, the Jaipur Literature Festival is set to return in a super hybrid avatar with both on-the-ground magnificence at the Clarks Amber Hotel in Jaipur and its nifty virtual presence.
