Turn the tide by using your weapon skills smartly.

Use all of your combat arts, magic, and abilities in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will help you clear content much faster, so it’s essential that you get to grips with them quickly. Here is an overview of how to use your combat arts in this game, as well as information on the different types of skills you have.

Using Combat Arts and Magic in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes

Each character in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will have access to two combat art and magic slots. Once you equip them with an art, you can then use them in battle.

  1. In the battle preparation phase, make sure you have your combat arts equipped.

Select a unit, press X to access the convoy, and equip their combat arts from there.

  2. In combat, hold down the R key and press the Y or X key to activate your weapon skill or combat art.

Arts and magic spells are assigned to these face buttons, so pressing Y or X will activate the one you have bound to that button.

  3. Recharge weapon durability to continue using combat arts.

Your combat arts and magic will consume weapon durability points, so once your durability runs out, you won’t be able to use them. You can recharge durability by picking up purple item drops on the battlefield.

How to Unlock Combat Arts and Magic

The combat arts in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes are mainly related to the level of mastery of the work of each character. There are three star levels to achieve for each job, and you’ll unlock either a combat art or a passive ability with each level gained.

Work Experience is gained simply by having your characters fight and level up naturally, or you can speed it up by talking to the Training Instructor at Camp. Select the Train option when talking with the training instructor, then select the characters and respective jobs you want to level up, and begin training.

You will consume training points for each training session, and these are refreshed between chapters and certain battles.

Warrior and Awakening Gauges

In addition to your usual two combat arts, each character also has access to a Warrior and Awakening special attack. As you eliminate more enemies and capture fortresses, your Warrior Gauge (shown in the lower left corner of the screen) will begin to increase.

Once it’s full, press the A button to unleash a powerful warrior attack that will hit anything nearby.

Likewise, each character has an Awakening Gauge, which is indicated by a small circle in the lower right corner of the screen that slowly fills up over time. To activate your awakened state, hold down the R key and press A. While in an awakened state, you will deal more damage and you can also break through your enemies’ guards more easily.

Once the gauge is depleted, your character will automatically perform an Awakened Attack, which is another powerful AoE move that will hit everyone around you.

These two gauges can also be filled faster by collecting yellow and blue items that drop on the battlefield; yellow ones will fill your Warrior Gauge, while blue drops will fill the Awakening Gauge.
