Ohio arts organizations win over $ 1 million in NEA funding; here is the list of northeastern Ohio


CLEVELAND, Ohio – Forty-five arts organizations in Ohio have raised $ 1,065,000 in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.

In total for the year, the NEA awarded 1,498 prizes totaling nearly $ 33.2 million to organizations in each state.

About half of Ohio’s beneficiaries are in the northeastern part of the state. Prizes in the region total $ 605,000. All are based in Cleveland, unless otherwise noted:

Apollo’s Fire, Cleveland Baroque Orchestra (aka Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra), $ 40,000: Grants for artistic projects – Music

Case Western Reserve University, $ 75,000: Arts research grants

CityMusic Cleveland, $ 10,000: Grants for artistic projects – Music

Cleveland Institute of Music, $ 15,000: Grants for artistic projects – Opera

Cleveland Modern Dance Association (aka DANCECleveland), $ 20,000: Grants for artistic projects – Dance

Cleveland Museum of Art, $ 40,000: Grants for artistic projects – Museums

Cleveland Public Theater Inc., $ 25,000: Grants for artistic projects – Theater

Cuyahoga Community College Foundation (aka Tri-C Foundation), $ 10,000: Grants for artistic projects – Dance

Cuyahoga Community College Foundation (aka Tri-C Foundation) (on behalf of Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland), $ 20,000: Grants for artistic projects – Music

Holmes Center for the Arts Ltd., Millersburg, $ 10,000: Grants for artistic projects – presentation and multidisciplinary works

Lylesart, Richmond Heights, $ 10,000: Challenge America *

Youngstown Playhouse Inc., Youngstown, $ 10,000: Grants for artistic projects – Theater

* Challenge America grants primarily go to small and medium-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to populations with limited access due to geography, economy, or disability.

The National Endowment for the Arts was established by Congress in 1965.

• The NEA also provides separate grants through the American Rescue Plan. ARP is providing funding to the arts sector for reconstruction and recovery due to Covid. Funding for regional, state and local arts agencies was announced last year. The next round of ARP funding will be announced this month.
