Jaipur: The Jaipur Literature Festival 2022 is set to bring its five-day literary extravaganza to the field at its usual home in Jaipur. Known as ‘the greatest literary spectacle on earth’, the Festival is back with its hybrid avatar from March 5-14, 2022. The 15th edition of the rich program will feature stellar speakers from India and around the world. The Festival will be held at Clarks Amer Hotel, Jaipur and will follow COVID-19 safety protocols in accordance with government guidelines.

In the past, the iconic festival has hosted nearly 5,000 speakers and artists and hosted over a million book lovers from across India and the world. Once again, the pink city will be imbued with its contagious literary energy and will celebrate art, culture and heritage.

During the days of the Festival, there are endless experiences to soak up: a number of insightful sessions, food stalls to explore, fascinating music to listen to and a bustling carnival with a bookstore, and multiple parties organized on the sidelines of the Festival.

Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t miss the 15and edition of the Festival.

Speaker Highlights

The Festival will welcome some of the greatest literary minds in the world and bring them together for several round tables and interactions. Various prominent figures include the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction finalist Jonathan Franzen; 2021 Booker Winner Damon Galgut; Australian author and 2003 Booker winner CBD Peter. To make the list more dynamic, the stellar line-up includes a famous award-winning British poet and author of twelve books of poetry, two wildlife books and two novels. Ruth Padel; Recipient of Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar Tanuj Solanki; award-winning Anglo-Turkish novelist and Turkey’s most widely read author Elif Shafak; American scholar and author of the award-winning books On the edge of the Empire, The Exiles of Freedom and The Dawn Watch: Joseph Conrad in a Global World Maya Jasanoff; author of international bestselling and award-winning books Underland, ancient ways, monuments, and Lost Words: A Book of Spells (with writer Jackie Morris) – Robert Macfarlane; the author of a series of books that include The adorned body, discourse on primitive Buddhist art, Yogini worship and templesand India: a story through 100 objects, Padma Bhushan Laureate Vidya Dehejia; and senior Indian journalist and national award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri are also part of a meritorious list of speakers at the Festival for the 2022 edition.

For music lovers, the Festival will begin each day with soothing lyrical matinees to set the tone for later literary musings. The morning stage will be graced by acclaimed performers such as the Hindustani classical singer Ujwal Nagar and Smt. Sombala Kumar; Indian classical singer and composer Aastha Goswami; the collective of storytellers the Aahvaan Project; and academic and musician Priya Kanungo.

Heritage evenings

In addition to the musical matinees, the popular Literary Festival will offer a bewitching Heritage Evening on March 13 at Ganesh Pol, Amer Fort. On the program, a moving performance by Kalapini Komkali, classical singer and daughter of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva; and principal dancer and choreographer Aditi Mangaldas. To end the evening in style, a fashion show will be presented by the students of ARCH School of Design, Jaipur.

Jaipur music scene

The long-awaited musical spectacle Jaipur music scene will take place from 10and-12and March 2022, in the middle of Jaipur Literature Festival. The Power Artist Lineup feature a diverse group of artists from across the Indian subcontinent that will blow your mind and bring back the magic of live music. Jaipur’s music scene has seen some of the biggest offerings from India and around the world in previous editions, and this year’s festival will continue that legacy by showcasing an array of experienced musicians such as Anirudh Varma Collective, a contemporary Indian classical ensemble led by New Delhi pianist, composer and producer Anirudh Varma; Advaita, a top Indian fusion group that has completed a fourteen-year musical journey with its eight members; Mooralala Marwada, a famous Sufi folk singer; the Kutle Khan Projecta unique collective of Rajasthani folk musicians featuring the multi-talented Kutle Khan; Ali Saffudin, a gifted singer-songwriter from Srinagar, Kashmir; and Ankur & The Ghalat familya hindi rock project led by the leader and singer-songwriter Ankur Tewariin the same way Gaurav Gupta, Sidd Couto and Johan Pais.

Jaipur bookmark

The Jaipur BookMark (JBM), the largest publishing conclave in South Asia, is held alongside the Jaipur Literature Festival. As a B2B platform, it brings together publishers, literary agents, translation agencies and writers who want to talk business with targeted sessions and major industry players from around the world. All set to converge this year with a hybrid on-the-ground and online platform, it will offer everyone in the book and publishing industry the opportunity to meet and mingle.

Food stalls and merchandise

The Festival will also offer its visitors the opportunity to experience India’s vast artisanal repertoire – The Buzzar Festival will take place at the Clarks Amer Hotel for the five days from 9.00am to 6.00pm. A night market in the Jaipur music scene will also be held from 10 to 12 March 2022, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Bursting with exquisite textiles, stationery, apparel, jewelry, footwear, lifestyle, home décor and utilities, the Buzzaar offers something appealing for everyone. Food stalls scattered throughout the Festival and at the Night Market will offer a range of sensational dishes.

Friends of the Festival

This year Jaipur Literature Festival also brings exclusive Friends of the Festival experience.
